Emma Lees is Professor of Environmental and Property Law and a fellow of Downing College. Her main areas of research are environmental and land law, and her most recent publications include a textbook on land law, an edited collection concerned with biodiversity protection in the EU and an article assessing the ‘performative’ qualities of environmental law available in the Modern Law Review.
Emma teaches Land Law, Contract Law, Landlord and Tenant Law, and Environmental Law, and she has a wide ranging research interests within the fields of environmental and property law. Her environmental law research largely focuses on controls on the use and quality of land, including biodiversity protection, contaminated land, waste regulations, and planning law. Emma combines this with research on land law and landlord and tenant law. More recently, Emma's research has expanded to cover the use of scientific information by courts, and the relationship between different national courts in relation to climate change.
