Ems Lord is the Director of the NRICH, a joint project between the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge and the University's Centre for Mathematical Sciences. Now in its 20th year, the NRICH programme shares its vision of rich mathematics for all through its extensive, free online resources alongside leading professional development workshops for teachers both in the Uk and further afield. In the year 2015/16 the team visited over 250 schools and conferences, including several overseas tours. The number of users of our NRICH website continues to grow, reaching more than 5.5 million users in the period 1 September 2015 – 31 August 2016. NRICH also emcompasses Wild Maths, the STEP Support Programme and the STMULUS programme.

Ems has taught across all age groups , from Early Years and Primary through to secondary and A-Level Further Mathematics. She is a Leading Mathematics Teacher, and a Chartered Mathematics Teacher. Ems has extensive experience leading teacher professional development, including lecturing on both BEd, PGCE and Masters courses. Prior to joining NRICH, Ems led one of the largest regional Mathematics Specialist Teacher programmes in the UK.

Ems holds a MA in Education and she is currently writing up her PhD thesis which addresses the factors affecting fluency when learning written calculations.
