Julie Pierce has been in the new post of Director Openness, Data and Digital since 2015. The post was established to reflect the importance of openness to the Agency and the nation’s food consumers ie the whole population, and to drive for the use of modern digital approaches and technologies across the food system. Julie is responsible for communications, transparency, social media, data, digital solutions and technology. She is a member of the Agency’s Executive Management Team.

Previously Julie was the Chief Information Officer at the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs where she established the department as the government leader in making its data open. She spent much of her career in the private sector implementing change programmes as a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers in financial services, pharmaceuticals, defence and central government in the UK and Europe. Julie started her career working in oil exploration deploying remote sensing tools and analytical techniques.

Julie read Mathematics and Physical Oceanography at the University of Bangor.
