Senior Policy Adviser, The Royal Society
Junior Policy Fellow, Centre for Science and Policy

June is a Senior Policy Adviser at the Royal Society, the UK’s National Academy of Sciences. In her role, June shapes data and digital technology policy using a critical, evidence-informed approach to influence high-level decisionmaking in the UK and abroad.

Within the Society’s data and digital technologies policy team, June leads projects on social inequality, climate change and environment, and privacy. This entails working with the Society’s Fellowship of esteemed scientists and synthesising evidence from a variety of sources to craft recommendations for UK government, industry, researchers, and other stakeholders.

Previously, June was a senior researcher at the consultancy Justice Studio (London), where she worked with social and environmental charities, NGOs, governments, and academic clients to provide intelligence, build rapid response research capacity during the pandemic, and promote evidence-informed decisionmaking.

Prior to this, June completed a CES-Mellon fellowship (Columbia University) and Fulbright research grant period (Hungary) as an affiliate of the Environmental Social Science Research Group and Central and Eastern European Web for Biodiversity, an environmental policy NGO. Her research focussed on the co-evolution of environmental policy and landscape across time in a protected Hungarian wine region, with a particular focus on the erosion of biodiversity and the social discourse of ‘taste’ in products of that region.

June completed a PhD in anthropology (ecological and environmental) and Master of Science in crop and soil sciences at the University of Georgia (USA). She has also studied at the University of Tübingen (Germany), Central European University (Hungary), and Kennesaw State University (USA).
