Mags Lesiak is a criminologist specialising in domestic violence and addiction. Her research explores the social and psychological dimensions of violence, aiming to inform evidence-based policies and interventions that promote safety for the victims and accountability for perpetrators.
As a Cambridge fellow at the UK Government Office for Science and Technology, Mags authored the “Playbook of Social and Behavioural Science Principles for Emergencies,” a resource used by policymakers to incorporate behavioural science into crisis management. She also led the development of a policy paper on social capital and crime for the UK Trust, collaborating with scholars from Cambridge and Harvard, which now shapes crime prevention strategies across England.
Mags is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Greenwich, where she teaches Forensic Psychology and Psychological Criminology. Her lectures focus on applications of theory and research to professional practice.
Currently, Mags is utilising machine learning algorithms to analyse large datasets on domestic violence. She applies natural language processing (NLP) techniques in Python to process and extract meaningful insights from text data, enabling the identification of trends, risk factors, and predictive patterns. Her work involves developing models to classify, cluster, and visualise data, providing a more granular understanding of domestic violence.
In addition to her academic work, Mags has consulted on projects addressing gender-based violence and contributed to training programmes for professionals in criminal justice and mental health. She is dedicated to bridging research with practical solutions to address social harm
