Dr Mike McHugh has worked in the NHS for over 30 years, including 15 years working as a GP in Nottingham. In 2004 he commenced training to become a consultant in public health and has been working in that capacity in Leicestershire and Rutland since 2009. Since 1 April 2013 Mike has been employed by Leicestershire County Council but retains a statutory role in supporting the local NHS to deliver evidence-based and cost-effective care matched to the needs of the local population.

Mike has worked with West Leicestershire CCG since 2012 and his role is to support the CCG in planning services based upon health needs assessment, evidence-based practice and prioritisation. He also links back to the wider public health team at Leicestershire and Rutland County Councils and to other local public health colleagues who work in health improvement and health protection. He has particular interests in mental health, cancer, clinical governance and in addressing health inequalities.
