Simon Bowkett (joint fellowship with Mary Peart) has worked in the complex needs service sector for over 25 years, including housing & homelessness, drug & alcohol services, youth services, criminal justice services, and mental health services. Prior to joining the civil service, he was Chief Executive of CoLab, a multi-agency, cross-sector collaborative hub for complex needs which was home to over 35 co-located projects and services.

In 2018 Simon became a Clore Fellow in Social Leadership, working to look at cross-disciplinary approaches to complex needs.

Simon joined MHCLG in January 2020 as a policy adviser, working firstly in homelessness project delivery, then being moved in March to work on the department’s emergency Covid-19 response for rough sleeping.

Outside of work, he am passionate about LGBT+ rights. Simon is a a Stonewall Bi Role Model, Chair of Exeter Pride, and will be starting a Masters in Queer History in 2021.
