The first meeting of the CSaP Dowling Policy Fellowship brought together the inaugural Fellows for a discussion on UK innovation with Dame Anne Dowling - Emeritus Professor of Mechanical Engineering - and Tim Minshall, Dr John C Taylor Professor of Innovation, University of Cambridge.

A supply chain expert and leading researcher from the University of Cambridge hosted a seminar for CSaP’s Policy Leaders Fellows (PLFs), the most senior policymakers in Whitehall, Brussels or devolved administrations, who provide access to research and academic expertise.

A CSaP Policy Fellow from Number 10, says he wants to engage with researchers and give academia “a chance again” during a visit to the University of Cambridge. Ben Henshall, Head of Analysis at 10 Downing Street, met with several academics in November 2011 as part of the CSaP Policy Fellowship scheme.

Public servant Richard Banks says he hopes to gain “connections and understanding” from researchers and experts in public and private roles, during his first visit to Cambridge as a CSaP Fellow.

As part of the CSaP Policy Fellows’ seminar series on citizen science, Professor Alan Irwin (Department of Organization at Copenhagen Business School) discussed citizen science and how it fits into scientific evidence and advice feeding into public policy.

CSaP organised a programme of meetings for seven Policy Fellows from the MENA region (from Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Turkey) who visited the UK in October and November 2018.

A meeting hosted by CSaP and the Expertise Under Pressure project brought together members of CSaP’s Policy Leaders Fellowship to hear Professor Shaffer’s thought-provoking talk, which provided the stimulus for a roundtable discussion on the meaning of progress
