CSaP explores opportunities for early-career researchers to contribute to the policy process

Presentations by graduate students at the Cambridge Biological and Life Sciences Symposium (SymBLS) provided an opportunity for government attendees to hear about research at Cambridge that could have particular relevance to policy in the future.

It is with great sadness that we heard of the death of Professor Sir Gabriel Horn. Professor Horn was the moving force behind the Cambridge University Government Policy Programme (CUGPOP), the initiative which preceded the Centre for Science and Policy; his energy, enthusiasm, breadth of vision and attention to detail enabled the Programme to have a deep and lasting influence on government policy.

The Policy Fellowship enters its third year in September 2012 with the arrival of new Fellows with particular interests in cyber security, health and wellbeing, and the environment

On 2 July, CSaP celebrated its third successful year of 'building bridges' between science and policy at a reception hosted at the Royal Academy of Engineering. The reception provided an opportunity for more than 150 policy makers, industry leaders and researchers to meet and share experiences with many of those who had taken part in CSaP activities since its launch in July 2009.

The Centre for Science and Policy today announced the appointment of Dr Robert Doubleday as its new Executive Director.

On 13 June, at the Royal Society, CSaP Visiting Fellow Tristram Riley-Smith brought together leading academics and policy-makers to discuss the relationship between national security challenges and academic research.

Continuing the Centre for Science and Policy's (CSaP's) Distinguished Lecture Series, Mark Henderson, Head of Communications at the Wellcome Trust and former Science Editor at The Times, spoke about the challenges of creating evidence based policy and paid credit to CSaP for “blazing the trail” in connecting science and policy.
