James de Winter is an Associate Lecturer in Science Education at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge, where he leads the secondary Physics PGCE course. He also works for the charity Ogden Trust, which promotes the learning of Physics. He has developed materials and textbooks for science education, including teacher guides for A-Level Physics practical work, GCSE textbooks, and TV programmes.

James holds a BEng from Loughborough University School of Technology, and a PGCE and MEd both from the University of Cambridge. He worked as a secondary school teacher in Physics before joining the Science Learning Network, where he developed and lead professional development courses for specialist and non-specialist physics teachers. His main research interest is in physics teacher identity in the UK and internationally with a particular focus on those undertaking initial teacher education and early career teachers
