Senior Research Associate, Inclusive Design, Department of Engineering

Joy Goodman-Deane is a Senior Research Associate in the Inclusive Design group at the Engineering Design Centre, University of Cambridge, where she has worked since 2004. Her research looks at how to enable companies to design more inclusive products, i.e. products that are suitable for a wider range of people, including those who are older or have disabilities. Her interests focus on developing tools and methods to help support designers in conducting inclusive design. These include the Impairment Simulators, the Exclusion Calculator and Clari-Fi, which can be found on the Inclusive Design Toolkit.

She has also helped to design, administer and analyse various surveys for gathering data about users across the population that is useful for examining exclusion in design. This data includes information on digital technology use, competence and attitudes.

Recent work has examined digital exclusion in public transport and car interfaces.
