Kristian Skrede Gleditsch is Regius Professor of Political Science, Department of Government, University of Essex, UK and Research Associate, Peace Research Institute Oslo, Norway. He was president of the International Studies Association 2021-2022. His research interests include conflict and cooperation, democratization, out-of-sample prediction in the social sciences, and spatial dimensions of social and political processes.

He is the author of the books Inequality, Grievances, and Civil War (Cambridge University Press, 2013, with Lars-Erik Cederman and Halvard Buhaug) and All International Politics is Local: The Diffusion of Conflict, Integration, and Democratization (University of Michigan Press, 2002), as well as numerous articles in journals including American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, International Organization, International Studies Quarterly, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of Peace Research, Political Analysis, and World Politics. He was listed in Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researchers 2014 (http://highlycited.com/) as one of the 3000 researchers with the greatest numbers of Highly Cited Papers, ranking among the top 1% most cited for their subject field (Social Sciences) and year of publication.

In 2007 he received the International Studies Association’s Karl Deutsch Award for the scholar under the age of 40 judged to have made the most significant contribution to the study of International Relations and Peace Research.
