Nigel Kettley is Academic Director for Education & Social Science at the Institute for Continuing Education, University of Cambridge. He directs and teaches several courses at the Institute, including the MSt in Advanced Subject Teaching and the Madingley Weekly Programme.

Nigel's research includes lifelong learning, how gender, socio-economic background and ethnicity impact on GCSE and A-Level attainment, and policy and legislative change in higher education, including how changes to student funding and bursary provision impact on students from different backgrounds. He is currently carrying out a research project that evaluates the Cambridge Bursary Scheme, which ran from 2000 to 2011.

Nigel holds a PhD in the Sociology of Education, and an MPhil in Sociology and Politics of Modern Society, both from the University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts, a peer reviewer for multiple journals including Educational Review and British Educational Research Journal, and a member of the editorial advisory board for British Journal of Sociology of Education.
