Dr Pallavi Banerjee is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge. She is currently on secondment to the Department for Education. Dr Banerjee specialises in education policy and social justice. Her research focuses on addressing inequalities in educational outcomes for children and young people across the student life cycle, particularly those linked to socioeconomic background. She conducts evaluations utilising experimental and quasi-experimental research designs and synthesise research evidence through systematic reviews.

Dr Banerjee routinely analyses large-scale datasets to identify factors associated with gaps in attainment and progression, educational behaviour and decision-making, and she provides policy advice based on these findings. Her current projects include investigating strategies to alleviate and mitigate the effects of poverty on educational outcomes and promoting equitable educational practices.

Dr Banerjee is currently part of the Editiorial Board of Sociology and Guest Editor of Research Intelligence BERA. She was previously a Senior Lecturer at the University of Exeter.
