Professor of European History
Professor Renaud Morieux specialises in transnational history, with a particular focus on Britain, France and their empires. His research interests include the history of migration, oceans, incarceration and the social history of war since the eighteenth century. More recently he has been working on the history of statelessness and the history of the family.
Over the years, Renaud has tried to keep a foot on both sides of the English Channel. He was educated in France (Ecole Normale Supérieure LSH, University Paris 1 - Panthéon Sorbonne, and University of Lille) and the UK (University College London), and has taught in several French universities, most recently University of Lille, as an Associate Professor. Renaud joined the Faculty of History in 2011. In September 2019, he obtained an Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches from EHESS.
Renaud has held visiting fellowships in Cornell, EHESS, Harvard, Paris I-Sorbonne, Paris Cité, Sciences Po, and Toronto. In 2014, he was awarded a Philip Leverhulme Prize for History.
