Dr Saffron Karlsen is an Associate Professor in Sociology, School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies at the University of Bristol. She previously worked as a senior research fellow in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at UCL.

Her research focuses on ethnicity and its connection with health and other inequalities. Dr Karlsen works with the Race Equality Foundation and Black South West Network, as well as the Black South West Network, the Bristol Race Equality Network.
