Sam Cannicott leads the UK government's Office for AI which is responsible for AI policy including the recently published AI Regulation White Paper. He is a Deputy Director in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology where he also covers wider digital regulation policy. Sam's team is also working on establishing the recently announced Foundation Model Taskforce and is also working with regulators to launch a new AI regulatory sandbox. Prior to his current role, Sam was a Deputy Director at the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation. He started his civil service career in New Zealand.
