Senior Researcher, Centre for Climate Engagement, Hughes Hall, University of Cambridge

Samuel Ruiz-Tagle is a Research By-Fellow at Hughes Hall, and Senior Researcher in Law at the Centre for Climate Engagement, University of Cambridge. Previously, Dr Ruiz-Tagle was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Administrative Law and Governance also at Hughes Hall. Dr Ruiz-Tagle's work examines the legal and theoretical foundations of English planning law, with a view to explaining the social and political significance of law in land transformation. More broadly, he is interested in the interrelationship between the courts and public administration, with a focus on how the judiciary, through the development of legal doctrine, can promote intelligence in public decision-making.

Before entering academia in 2017, Samuel worked for nearly a decade in Chile. He advised domestic and international companies in the development of nationally significant infrastructure projects, and regularly appeared before administrative bodies, courts, and tribunals. In addition, he served as a legal advisor to the Ministry General Secretariat of the Presidency and acted as a consultant to government bodies in the drafting of planning laws and regulations.

Samuel completed his doctorate at the Faculty of Law of the University of Oxford. He also has a Master of Laws from Stanford University, a Graduate Diploma in Urban Planning from the Institute of Urban Studies UC, and a Bachelor of Laws with Social Sciences from the University of Chile.
