In November 2022, members of the Cambridge Zero Policy Forum gathered at Darwin College, Cambridge to discuss the outcomes of COP27. Several members of the Forum attended the COP in person, which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. Others chose to attend online, and some closely followed reports in their specialist areas.

Dr Nick Watts, Chief Sustainability Officer for NHS England, met with the Cambridge Zero Policy Forum to discuss how the NHS can approach achieving net zero carbon emissions.

As part of the Cambridge Zero Climate Change Festival, a panel of experts from academia and industry gathered to discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with the implementation of passive cooling strategies in the UK’s built environment.

Professor Sarah Dillon (Faculty of English, University of Cambridge) and Rachel Fisher (Deputy Director for Land Use Policy at Defra) joined a cross-disciplinary group of academics as part of a Cambridge Zero Policy Forum roundtable discussion on narratives and their links with climate change policy.

Dr. Si Chen (David MacKay Cambridge Zero Darwin College Research Associate) organised a critical discussion on ocean-based carbon dioxide removal and the development of a governance framework consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals. The expert panel discussion was a part of the Cambridge Zero Climate Change Festival.

The Centre for Science and Policy and Laura Diaz Anadon, Professor of Climate Change Policy at the University of Cambridge and Director of CEENRG, delivered a policy workshop on strengthening the UK’s innovation ecosystem in the energy space to meet the government’s net zero target.  

The Capabilities in Academic Policy Engagement (CAPE) team at the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Science and Policy (CSaP) hosted a day of talks for members of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to discuss the digital transformation of healthcare services.

“There is a window of opportunity for the UK to take scientific leadership,” asserts Robert Miller, Director of the Whittle Laboratory and University of Cambridge Professor, opening the afternoon of talks between researchers and CSaP’s Dowling Policy Fellows at Peterhouse College.
