Director, Institute of Continuing Education, University of Cambridge
James Gazzard (Jim) is Director of the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education, a role he has held since April 2016. He is particularly interested in the interfaces between higher education and industry; including how mid-career skills development and lifelong learning can support areas such as innovation and job satisfaction. He also maintains a focus on enterprise education, particularly in the clinical and life science fields.
Before joining the University of Cambridge Jim was Professor of Workforce Futures, and Associate Dean for Postgraduate Taught Courses, Enterprise and Engagement in the University of East Anglia’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. He has also worked for The Royal Veterinary College, GlaxoSmithKline, Cranfield School of Management and the Medical Research Council in a series of educational and commercial roles.
Jim holds a PhD from the University of Nottingham and a BSc from Cardiff University, as well as an MBA from the University of Stirling and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education from the University of London. He is a Fellow of Wolfson College Cambridge. He is a Governor for West Suffolk College, and has previously been a Co-opted Partner Governor for the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
