Dr Nicola Lawrence is Imaging Facility Manager at the Gurdon Institute in the Henry Wellcome Building of Cancer and Developmental Biology within the University of Cambridge. She is an expert in light microscopy techniques as used in the life sciences and as such has contributed to a wide range of research projects at the Gurdon Institute and in the wider School of Biological Sciences. She is a Fellow of the Royal Microscopical Society and is developing teaching resources for the international bioimaging community.

Dr Lawrence has an active interest in public engagement with STEM and has been involved in a variety of Cambridge-based projects including a recurring Year-12 challenge project and the Aspiring Scientists Training Programme. In 2018 she was awarded the Gurdon Institute Public Engagement Champion prize.

For several years, Dr Lawrence has been a Lyme disease patient advocate and runs activities to raise awareness of the disease and educate the public around ticks and tick-bite prevention. She is working with the Lyme Resource Centre and the Tick-borne Disease Working Group UK/Ire with an aim to improve disease surveillance and ultimately to change policy and improve patient outcomes.
