Peter's academic research interests focus on UK and international tax policy and increasing collaboration and understanding in these fields between academia, government and the private sector.
Peter Jelfs was previously Head of Tax Services within the Investment Directorate at the Department for Business and Trade. His role encompassed providing UK tax and business policy guidance to potential overseas investors, training DIT colleagues around the world on the UK’s tax and business environment and feeding UK tax policy issues around FDI to tax policy-owning departments such as HMT and HMRC.
Following an undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Oxford, Peter worked in the private sector as an R&D tax incentive specialist and for HMRC’s Large Business Team, before gaining his PhD in Management from Birkbeck, University of London.
