Sean’s work is on political theory and international relations. His PhD thesis is on theories of state responsibility, or justifications for holding whole countries (as opposed to individual leaders and officials) responsible, such as for reparations and debts. His next project will be about the extension of ‘artificial personhood’ to non-corporate entities, such as nature and robots. Much of the project will be about how to assign responsibility for harms caused by new technologies, such as self-driving cars and autonomous weapons.
