Matthew Romang is the Assistant Director for Technology Finance at the Department for Business and Trade.

He is the policy lead for the Department’s access to finance work, aiming to improve the ability of UK R&D intensive businesses to access the finance they need to grow and achieve the UK’s goal of becoming a Science and Technology superpower by 2030.

Matthew’s professional career started on the Civil Service Science and Engineering Fast Stream where he completed placements at Dstl as a Change Manager, as a Science Advisor for the COVID-19 Taskforce, a secondment to Newton Venture Programme as a Programme Manager and to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Quantum Technology Policy Team.

Matthew holds an MSc with Distinction in Biotechnology, Bioprocessing and Business Management from the University of Warwick and a BSc in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Exeter.
