Tija Jakič is finishing her undergraduate studies on the topic of International relations at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana.

She is also a member of the Research Institute of 8th of March, a non-governmental organisation focused on tackling inequalities and promoting women’s rights. Their focus on the #metoo movement transformed from collecting anonymous stories into a fight for a legislative change of the definition of rape as a lack of consent. In the beginning of 2021, she worked on the “Yes means yes” (Samo ja pomeni ja) campaign, that successfully introduced beforementioned proposed legislative changes to the Criminal Code of Slovenia and is currently being adopted in parliament. This will provide more shelter for the victims of sexual assault and contribute substantially to the end of victim blaming.

Besides that, she is currently advocating and working on a campaign for the protection of drinking water (Za Pitno Vodo), in collaboration with numerous climate protection groups.

Otherwise, she is most passionate about the topic of women’s rights protection, the history and politics of the Balkan region and international migration.
