Strategy Lead: Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (UK Research & Innovation)

William Lord is the lead on long-term strategy for the £2.6bn Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund. He is responsible for the development of UKRI’s vision and strategy for “challenge-led” research and innovation. He acts as the corporate lead for ISCF in UKRI: briefing the CEO and senior leadership on the fund and leading on the relationship with BEIS and other government departments.

Previously, William Lord worked as a Senior Policy Advisor for Business, Ideas and Place (Cities and Local Growth Unit, MHCLG/BEIS) where he led on the co-creation of the “Ideas” (research and innovation) chapters of the West Midlands and Greater Manchester Local Industrial Strategies.Additionally, he developed a new approach to place-based research and innovation within the Unit: establishing firm links between Local Industrial Strategies and the government’s strategy for achieving the 2.4% R&D target.

William Lord has a MA in World History from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Thouron Scholar and a MA in Modern History & International Relations from the University of St Andrews.

    CSaP annual meeting & reception 2021

    On 21 October 2021, CSaP hosted its first in-person networking event since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The annual meeting and reception, held at the Royal Academy of Engineering in London, provided an opportunity for 115 public policy professionals, industry leaders, and researchers to meet and share their experiences to improve decision-making.
