A cross-disciplinary group of academics met with Richard Bruce, DfT Director of Transport Decarbonisation, and Dr Bob Moran, DfT Deputy Director of Decarbonisation Strategy, for a Cambridge Zero Policy Forum discussion, bringing a broad range of academic expertise from across the University of Cambridge to bear on the challenges and opportunities raised by the DfT’s transport decarbonisation plans.

CSaP hosted a Policy Workshop at Sidney Sussex College as the closing event for the Global Green Media Network (GGMN). The international project has been looking at the technological changes, industry initiatives, and economic drivers involved in the ‘greening’ of the global film, TV, and screen arts sector.

Researchers from the University of Cambridge's Bioelectronics Laboratory guided CSaP's Policy Leaders Fellows on a tour of their cutting-edge facilities, demonstrating how recent advances at the interface of electrical engineering and clinical neuroscience have the potential to transform treatment approaches across healthcare.

Pamela Dow, Executive Director of the Government Skills and Curriculum Unit (GSCU), delivered an online seminar to CSaP Policy Fellows on how to enhance the knowledge, skills, and networks of civil servants. The GSCU was established in September 2020, within the Cabinet Office, but supporting the whole of Government.

The chief of the UK’s innovation agency called for greater support for small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs), at the second annual Cleevely Lecture, hosted by CSaP. Indro Mukerjee, CEO of Innovate UK, delivered the talk at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge and said it is time to seek ingenuity and boldness within UK innovation.

The first meeting of the CSaP Dowling Policy Fellowship brought together the inaugural Fellows for a discussion on UK innovation with Dame Anne Dowling - Emeritus Professor of Mechanical Engineering - and Tim Minshall, Dr John C Taylor Professor of Innovation, University of Cambridge.

The Centre for Science and Policy continued its series of in-person seminars on social infrastructure topics in collaboration with the British Academy on 26 May 2022, with a discussion on universities as anchor institutions.

The Centre for Science and Policy (CSaP) hosted a seminar for academics and policy professionals, led by Dame Professor Theresa Marteau and Dr Matthew Gill, exploring how to improve the use of evidence and evaluation in policy making.

George Freeman MP, Minister for Science, Research, and Innovation delivered a CSaP Lecture at St John’s College, Cambridge where he discussed the UK’s position within global research and innovation. The talk on 28 April 2022 explored the mission of making Britain a “Science Superpower”.

The Centre for Science and Policy resumed its series of in-person seminars in collaboration with the British Academy with a discussion of The Woolf Institute’s report: “How We Get Along: The Diversity Study of England and Wales 2020”. The Institute’s Director of Research Dr Julian Hargreaves presented the findings as well as Professor Tariq Modood, Professor of Sociology, Politics and Public Policy, University of Bristol.
