    Annual Cleevely Lecture

Future of Transport: Decarbonising a complex system

    Date: Tuesday 26 September 2023

Time: 5:30pm-6:45pm followed by drinks and networking

    Venue: Peterhouse, Cambridge

    PLEASE REGISTER HERE

The next Annual Cleevely Lecture will be delivered by Professor Sarah Sharples, Chief Scientific Adviser in the Department for Transport.

In her talk, Professor Sharples will discuss the seismic changes that we can and must see to the transport network in our lifetimes. She will emphasise the importance of collaboration between government, industry and academia to collectively tackle the complex, multifactorial challenges facing the transport network.

Among these is decarbonisation, and the necessity to avert a climate crisis through achieving net zero, with the vast and rapid rollout of electric vehicles, battery-powered trains, and sustainable aviation fuels. She will also discuss the opportunities presented by emerging technologies, enabling us to improve the way in which we travel, including the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to introduce self-driving vehicles to our roads, revolutionising public transport accessibility and availability. Her talk will focus on the importance of taking people with us to ensure that these changes are safe, and have a positive impact on people, society, industry, and the economy.
