Assistant Professor of Economic Geography, Department of Land Economy
Dr Davide Luca is an Assistant Professor of Economic Geography at the Department of Land Economy, and a Visiting Fellow at the International Inequalities Institute, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
His research focuses on territorial inequality and its long-term effects on individual outcomes and behaviours. It explores four interrelated sub-areas of inquiry: (1) mapping the territorial divergence that, in the last decades, has been opening up in the form of regional and urban-rural divides; (2) analysing whether territorial inequality is purely driven by market forces or – also – by political economy determinants; (3) understanding how place and spatial inequality shape long-term individual outcomes and behaviours; (4) evaluating place-based policies aimed at redressing territorial divergence.
Before joining Cambridge University, Dr Davide Luca was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School of Government and worked for the European Commission. He has consulted international organisations including the European Parliament and the OECD. He holds a PhD in Economic Geography from LSE.
