Steve Young CBE, FRS, FREng is Emeritus Professor of Information Engineering in the Information Engineering Division at the University of Cambridge. His main research interests lie in the area of speech technology and conversational AI. He has published more than 300 papers in the area and received numerous awards including an IEEE Signal Processing Society Technical Achievement Award in 2004; an ISCA Medal for Scientific Achievement in 2010; the IEEE James L Flanagan Speech and Audio Processing Award in 2015; and the IEEE Signal Processing Society Carl Friedrich Gauss Award in 2022. He was elected to the Royal Society in 2020 and he received a CBE for services to software engineering in 2022.

In the University, he served as Head of the School of Technology from 2001 to 2004, he was an elected member of the University Council from 2006 to 2009 and he was Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor from 2009 to 2015. His external activities include founding several companies including Entropic which was acquired by Microsoft in 1999, and VocalIQ which was acquired by Apple in 2016. He is currently an investor and advisor to a number of Cambridge-based startups and he is a member of Cambridge Enterprise Investment Committee.
