Secretary, School of Physical Sciences, University of Cambridge

Dr Jim Bellingham took up post as the Secretary of the School of Physical Sciences on 31 August 2010, in succession to Dr John Dalton. His background is Cambridge Physics; as well as a first degree he completed a PhD and did post-doctoral work at the Cavendish, working on amorphous indium oxide, as well as teaching for a number of colleges.

After leaving Cambridge for what was then the UK Department of Trade and Industry, he worked for a short time at the National Physical Laboratory, before moving into policy and administration. There he worked successively on environmental policy; enlarging the European Union to include the former Eastern bloc; reforming small business grant schemes; and regulating the large audit firms.
